My experience in Ireland

Autor: Matej Čavar

Our school took part in the Erasmus+ project which is a student exchange programme in which students from one country go to another foreign country to attend school/classes/work there. I was one of the 15 chosen students from our school.

The trip from Bjelovar to Dublin wasn’t unpleasant and everything went smooth. After we came to Bray, our new families were waiting for us and took us to our homes where we’d live for the upcoming two weeks. We woke up on Sunday and were slowly learning where the shops, pubs and cafés were while going around Dublin by bus. After the bus ride, we got some free time in Dublin to look around on our own. Some went directly to the pubs and some went and got something to eat, myself included. After the free time we went back to Bray by Dart, the Irish railway train.

On Monday we started work in the Chamber of Commerce, where we listened to classes about working in the Revit programme. In the two weeks that we were there, we learned to model houses from the beginning all the way to printing the project sheets with the finest details about the project we’re working on. We also had a couple of assignments for which we needed to design, edit and build projects to fit the assignment/project we were given.

The Irish culture isn’t too different if we compare it to ours. The meals aren’t as big as ours, which was a little problem but eventually I got used to it. Besides that, the stay wasn’t bad at all. An elderly woman took me and my friend in and she was really kind and helpful. She told us all the things we needed to know regarding our stay, the town we were staying in, local tourist attractions and much more.

Two weeks passed quickly and on Saturday we were ready to go home. The trip back home was amazing and fun seeing as we all became friends and talked and joked about anything and everything.

All in all, I am grateful for the opportunity, I learned a lot of new skills and I would do it all again if given the chance.
